12/20/2012 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – A cyberspace operations professional from Air Forces Northern’s communications directorate was recognized for her contributions to the field of information assurance with an Air National Guard annual award.
Master Sgt. Terry Olson, AFNORTH’s cyber surety manager, was named ANG’s Outstanding Information Assurance (IA) Program Manger of the year for 2012.
Sergeant Olson, AFNORTH’s cyber surety manager, is directly responsible for the certification and accreditation of AFNORTH circuits and systems that support the unit’s Defense Support of Civil Authorities and homeland defense missions.
During the award period, she was lauded for resolving multiple IA issues including closing a vulnerability that secured the Sentinel radar system data and a multi-platform Command, Control, Communications, and Computer system, protecting a vital Imagery Assessment and Analysis tool providing real-time situational awareness to the commander.
Additionally, she conducted the first-ever IA Staff Assistance Visit at the Eastern Air Defense Sector, validating Command Cyber Readiness Inspection and IA Assessment and Assistance Program readiness. This visit directly contributed to the unit’s outstanding rating during a recent inspection.
“Having such an astute character, Sergeant Olson’s tireless efforts and professionalism greatly enhanced information system security, assuring the command and control systems for the air defense of the United States,” said Capt. Troy Lindig, AFNORTH Cyber Surety branch chief. “Her ceaseless efforts have been critical to our mission and her actions contribute to maintaining the excellence in the Air National Guard and the Air Force.”
This is not the first time Sergeant Olson has been recognized; in 2009 she was the ANG IA Program Manager of the year and in 2010 named the Air Combat Command Enlisted Contributor of the Year in the field of information operations.
